A flexible platform for thermal product treatment

A fluid bed dryer uses process air to fluidise the product bed, creating intensive contact between air and product. This allows efficient heat and moisture exchange for powders, crystals, granules, pellets and other free-flowing bulk materials.

Therma Process designs each system around the material, required capacity, moisture target, product temperature, hygiene level, energy concept and integration with upstream and downstream equipment.

What it solves

  • Unstable final moisture or product temperature
  • Insufficient drying or cooling capacity
  • High energy consumption in thermal processing
  • Product degradation caused by uncontrolled temperature or residence time
  • Dust formation, emissions or product losses
  • Difficult integration with cooling, air treatment or existing process equipment

Fluid bed dryer applications

A fluid bed is not a single-purpose dryer. The same fluidisation principle drives a wide range of thermal treatments — selected by airflow, temperature, residence time and zone configuration.

How fluid bed dryers work

The process is built around controlled contact between product and process air. Depending on the product, the system can be static, shaking, batch, continuous, single-stage or multi-stage.

Process air is introduced from below through a perforated plate or air-distribution deck to create uniform product movement.

The product behaves like a fluidised bed, creating intensive contact with heated or cooled process air.

In shaking fluid bed execution, the product is transported with controlled movement for a stable residence time.

Separate zones can be used for drying, cooling or conditioning, each with its own temperature, airflow and residence-time settings.

Moisture, dust and exhaust air are managed with filtration, heat recovery, ATEX or air-treatment systems where required.

Available configurations

The final execution is engineered around product behaviour, capacity, hygiene requirements, energy concept and process targets.

Fluid Bed Dryer FAQ

Can the process be tested before full-scale design?

Yes. Testing helps validate fluidisation behaviour, moisture removal, dust formation, temperature sensitivity and scale-up data before the full-scale machine is engineered.

Can energy recovery or air treatment be integrated?

Yes. The system can be combined with heat recovery, filters, cyclones, scrubbers, ATEX provisions, inert gas concepts and process automation.

What is the difference between shaking and vibrating fluid bed technology?

Shaking technology transports product in a controlled and product-friendly way, supporting uniform residence time and reducing the risk of product damage compared with more aggressive vibration concepts.

Can the same machine dry and cool?

Yes. A fluid bed can be designed with separate drying and cooling zones. Each zone can have its own airflow, temperature and residence-time control.

Is a fluid bed dryer suitable for my product?

It is most suitable for free-flowing powders, crystals, granules, pellets, seeds, fibres and extrudates. Product behaviour such as particle size, shape, moisture content and stickiness determines the final design.

Validate your process before full-scale design

Fluid bed performance depends strongly on product behaviour. Testing validates fluidisation, drying rate, dust formation, stickiness, temperature sensitivity and scale-up conditions before the final system is engineered.

The Therma Process execution is built around product-specific engineering, not a standard catalogue unit. Every system is designed, fabricated and assembled in our own workshop.

Why Therma Process for Fluid Bed Dryers?

  • Shaking fluid bed technology for controlled, product-friendly transport
  • Custom design based on product properties, capacity and process targets
  • Integration with cooling, air treatment, heat recovery and automation
  • Support for ATEX, hygienic design, CIP/washdown and inert gas concepts
  • Testing and scale-up support before full-scale investmen

Materials & products by industry

Liquid desiccant dehumidification is applied wherever a constant low humidity is essential — in industrial product drying and in conditioned process and production rooms.

No match for that term yet — fluid bed suitability depends on particle behaviour, not a fixed list. Ask us about your material →
